Hi, please ignore my earlier post. It's almost working now.

I read around here and I think I already figured out the culprit: wrong alcid value. I also added NVMEFix and set the alcid value to 11 and it seems to have fixed the crashes. The installer ain't crashing anymore but I'm seeing "Reinstall Monterey" and I'm getting a "pkDownload error 8". I'll see if I can read more to it right now.

EDIT: I tried to resolve this problem by redownloading my Monterey files but another problem came up.
Make sure you have proper files and not an unfinished installer. Also, ensure that internet is working during the install stage.

Hi, I am having an issue with my installation not pushing through at all,. I tried making an APFS drive out of my NVME drive and it always end up hanging whenever I try making it. It does create an APFS container but it always crashes whenever I try making a partition. Please help. Thank you.
Seems like the NVMe is the culprit. What drive is it? Attach the Disk Utility photo or from Windows Device Manager.

Read a bit more here and checked my NVME drive’s spec and it turns out that it’s a PM991 drive. Now that explains why it’s not pushing through. I’ll try using my other drive that has a Silicon Motion controller (an M.2) as it’s not in the drives to avoid. I’ll also update if it finally runs.

UPDATE: It still didn’t work, but some error did appear and I can’t find some good resources to fix it.
There you go!

That drive sucks and isn't supported. Replace it with a compatible NVMe.

Secondly, what macOS version are you trying to install?

No dice, still stuck at 18 minutes remaining then it crashes and freezes with the Caps Lock unresponsive. Here’s the message I got

Osinstallersetupd[479]: opendirectory: prune orphaned unlocked records failed with error: Error Domain=10000 “Operation is not supported by the directory node.” UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Operation is not supported by the directory node., NS…

I’ll be attaching the error here as well for more references. I tried looking this error up but I can’t find something relevant in my case. Will definitely appreciate any insight about this error. Thank you!

EDIT: added my config.plist for better insights. So far I haven't seen any resolution to this as I already tried what I can. Please help.
Why double kexts for the Trackpad and Keyboard? Use VoodooPS2Controller for now.

Set SecureBootModel to Disabled if you're trying to install macOS Sonoma (14.5) or later!
Also, set the csr-active-config to 67000000

No worries, already determined that the internet is stable enough to do the download after some basic fixes.

It’s the PM991 and I should’ve looked up about it more and probably I would’ve saved time. I just replaced it with an M.2 drive with a Silicon Motion controller (KMD T900, it’s a Chinese drive and I’m using it for now until I get a compatible drive).

I’m installing MacOS Monterey because that’s the recommended for the SMBIOS I chose for Kaby Lake (MacBookPro14,1).

Ah, my bad. I’ll delete the other and stick with VoodooPS2Controller.

I’ll also apply the fixes you said and will get back to you asap if it works. Here’s hoping it will this time. Thank you very much for being patient with me on this, much appreciated!

Hi, the issue still persists despite removing the repetitive kext and changing to those values. I really have no idea what to do anymore. I guess I’ll just have to get a compatible SSD and hope for it to work. I’ll give it up for now but if there’s any valuable insight that can be checked in chances that it will work, please let me know. Thank you very much for the help so far.

Could be an NVRAM issue as well. Did you make the changes as per the previous post? If so, attach it to check.

Also, is this online installer or offline?

I double-checked the NVRAM section in OCAT, cross-checked it with the video guide, and discovered nothing wrong with it. I always reset NVRAM at least twice before I proceeded with the installer. I also applied the changes according to your post.

I'm on an online installer as I think there's no offline installer for Monterey in Windows method.

Here's my config.plist with the latest changes applied. Thank you again for the response.

On another note I’ve been reading about NVME drives and how they are faring with Mac from this buyer’s guide.

I saw the OEM section and I found out that there were a few tested in there which works with Mac. I do actually have a Micron 2450 with me but it’s in a backup mini-PC that I use when I travel or lodge. Can it work with TRIM enabled? Also, up to which Mac version will it work?

Reason why I’m asking is that the whole root of the problem in my case is probably the NVME drive. My Chinese SSD might also be incompatible as well hence why it freezes. Also read that the Phison NVMes (Sabrent Rocket) ain’t viable anymore since Monterey.

At this point I don’t mind being stuck with Catalina or High Sierra as long as I have this working with a compatible drive.

Please advise, thank you.

Edit: already bought a WD SN740 and I'm already waiting for it to arrive before I continue this. Read that it shares a lot in common with SN770 with its WD controller and other specs, with the difference being the tolerances. Since some WD drives are more compatible with running Mac, especially the ones with the WD Controllers, I just decided to take one instead of risking to brick this spare M. 2 drive that I have.

No, that's just the NVRAM variables in the config.plist. I'm talking about the machine's NVRAM!
