Seems like your Device ID is different than what Apple actually supports. The Mac compatible Card uses 73BF, whereas, your Card uses 73AF. Flashing VBIOS can potentially fix the issue.
Thanks! I'll look into that now. I'm assuming that it's not possible to spoof it / replace it in the config.plist?

EDIT: And do you have a suggestion on where to start looking into flashing VBIOS?

Probably, that will not work.

Tech Power Up. From the VBIOS collection, check what matches to your card.

Well.... it appears a success!

NOTE: I have not tested anything other than booting, seeing the card show up in about this mac, and my actual display showing up in displays.

The lag that happened when minimizing a window is now gone. Super snappy!

I flashed my XFX Merc 319 Limited Black with the AMD Reference BIOS.
I had to force the flash with the -f flag because it said the bios on the card was newer.

Lilu and WhateverGreen kexts are enabled, i tried booting without the
  • agdpmod=pikera
boot argument, and just a black screen. Once I added that back it was fine. I didn't see the apple logo / progress bar this time - but I've only rebooted once.

I'll post again if I run into any issues.

Thank you!

There could be lags and freezes, artifacts when the QE/CI is not available and as a result, the acceleration does not work. Now, as that you have fixed it by flashing a VBIOS, it works correctly

Provide the PR files to include this information and credit in the post :)

Unfortunately, even though the install ran butter smooth once I flashed the card bios - i had to abandon the install and changed the board / cpu.

My whole point in building it was to have a work/development machine - which requires using Docker.... and no matter what I tried, i was unable to get Docker to work (including docker-machine, dinghy, and a few other attempts....). I was very sad to have to abandon it.

For anyone else that may have the same setup,

Ryzen 9 5900x 12 Core, 3.7GHZ
MSI MAG X570
XFX Merc 319 Radeon RX 6900 XT
64 GB DDR4000
2TB Samsung 980 PRO M.2

the files from my post # 35 (contains the working EFI for that setup) and post # 39, in this thread, are still relevant. I made no other changes and everything seemed to be working. Not sure about the wired ethernet - I was using the wifi. (I don't have those files anymore so I'm just linking to posts here)

For the card, if you're unable to get it to work, I flashed the reference BIOS for the 6900 from TechPowerUp.com and BigSur recognized the card straight away. I did need the
  • agdpmod=pikera
as a boot arg though!

Thanks to EliteMacx86 for pointing me in the right direction with the card flashing, and the guide i followed for getting it working super easily.

So, you were unable to run Docker? Probably, due to AMD platform I guess.

Yea, exactly. I tried for two days to get it to work with various "workarounds" and no dice... :(
If nothing else, that ryzen will be a nice upgrade to my unRaid server....

As far as I'm aware, Docker requires a Virtualization setting in BIOS. I guess, in the community, there was a workaround.

Yup, but even with that enabled, I wasn't able to get it to work on AMD. I tried this workaround, this homebrew one, and dinghy. All with no luck... Maybe those will help someone else...

If you know of another alternative, I'm willing to try.

O/W I'll be working on trying to get my i7-11700K and Z590 board running. Though initial research doesn't seem too promising...

Works perfectly with absolutely zero issues. Yeah, a compatible GPU is required only.
