Hi
I have succesfully installed Ventura 13.7.8 on the following hardware :
Gigabyte B760M DS3H DDR4 bios F14
Intel Core i5-12600K 12th Gen Alder Lake
RAM 32Go : Crucial 16Gb 3200MTS x 2
Radeon Sapphire Pulse RX 570 series 4Gb
Sandisk SDSSDHP256G : Ventura 13.7.8
Sandisk SDSSDA120G : MacOS
Right after the install on Ventura, everything was ok but some time the screen glitch with squared pattern (see picture attached). It could be :
- with screen saver off and disk suspend off, after a variable period of time of inactivy (not touching keyboard or mouse),
- with screen saver on, once the screen saver is started, I move the mouse and get the password screen, then it freeze just after.
The PC is still alive as I can connect via ssh and run some commands, just the screen get scrambled. If I try to restart properly vi a shutdown -h now, it quit the remote session, I can see the disk led flashing for few seconds but the PC does not stop : I have to hard stop it.
I then have made bunch of tests and adjustements :
1/ build my own SSDT files, the one I now use both on Ventura and Sequoia.
2/ build my USB MAP with USBToolbox on Windows. I also added XHCI-unsupported.
3/ change the model to iMacPro1,1 as per the recommandation in the thread I found here on the forum "ASUS PRIME Z690M-PLUS D4 - i9 12900KF - 128GB RAM - AMD RX 5700XT - Thunderbolt HotPlug - OpenCore"
Now, I would say it does work pretty well on Ventura, including screen saver/shutdown and sleep, but, while quite rare, it could still happen it freeze after a random period of time or run ok for hours.
On Sequoia, it systematically glitch and freeze very quickly after the login screen, while it has the same EFI.
What worries me is the fact it's random, I have not been able so far to find what could raise the freeze on Ventura, and quite surprise by the systematic freeze on Sequoia.
I have the following questions:
1/ The MB has a Intel Raptor Lake USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gb/s) XHCI Host Controller Id 8086:7A60. Even when I load XHCI-unsupported kext, when I check in hackintool, it still says unknown device (see picture attached) : is this normal (just cosmetic impact) or does it impact the USB behaviour ?
2/ I have now selected iMacPro1,1 after reading the thread here (see above) with your recommandation of iMacPro 1,1 for Intel Alder Lake i3 and i5, and MacPro 7,1 for Intel Alder Lake i7 and i9 : this is the first time I saw this recommandation, usually, both are recommanded for Alder Lake without any split between the 2 Mac type based on the model of Intel Core : can your explain why this ?
3/ as I get apparently a freeze of the WindowServer, I had check the vBIOS of the Radeon but it appears it's the stock one and BTW the card is running well under Windows 11. Then I read it could have a link with USB, but I am not sure of this.
I have attached my 2 EFIs, would appreciate if someone could spent some time to check them to see where could be the root cause.
Thanks Phil
