Random freezes, reboots and sleep not working after adding Graphic card

Not quite, as expressed after this bit it worked when cold booting after 30 min, 1 hour and two hours but happened again in the morning (Hack was shut down during the night)
That's weird.

It could be Monterey then. Try installing Big Sur 11.2.3 as everything is really as expected.
Also, have you monitored it under Windows? It could be also the BIOS.

I know... told you, the forum needs a :banghead: smiley :p
I see the need now ;)

Extremely weird and yes I'm starting to think that it is related to Monterey somehow; 12.3 should be out in two weeks, hope it fixes the issue.

I don't have a copy of Big Sur 11.2.3 currently, there was a link in Dortania's guide but the image appears to be broken, would you have a link maybe?

Under Windows I never had an issue; no freezes, no reboots as for the BIOS, I updated it when I bought the motherboard but there has not been a new version since. The only thing that might not be up to date might be Windows driver for the graphic card but I don't think this would have an impact on the Hack

Yeah, Monterey still has tons of bugs.

Unfortunately, not. But maybe you can try the latest version?

Hmm. If that's the thing, then hardware is having absolutely 0 issues.

Also, there are some cards that are supported but are prone to Kernel Panics. A workaround is to Spoof the Device ID of the GPU to make it more stable. However, before trying the spoof method, install 11.2.3 and then check your work.

In addition to the above, make sure your PSU wattage is sufficient and is not having a poor power delivery.

I managed to find 11.2.3 and installed it on another volume (same disk), let's see if the reboot also happens when I'll boot Big Sur tomorrow morning.

The power wattage is 750w and should be more than enough for my config and everything is properly wired. I actually even changed the power cable from PSU to graphic card to see if that was the issue but it wasn't

Cool!

I remember a case where the user had a faulty PSU, while in Windows, everything worked, BIOS worked as long it was not booted into Mac. Once the PSU was replaced, everything was good. So, you need to arrange a PSU to check further if the above Big Sur check fails.

Hi there,

I've been testing for 3 days now and didn't have any restarts on cold boot so far, hope I'm not going to jinx it:censored:

After some more reading I found an article recommending to check the disk for error; first checking volume, then container, then disk. Even though no errors were found, I didn't face an issue booting MacOS since then🤞
I'll monitor this for a few more days.
I also figured out why the Hack was restarting when waking it from sleep, it's due to an issue with Bluetooth that Apple apparently fixed in 12.3. If I keep my keyboard on bluetooth and check pmset -g, it mentions that sleep is prevented by a bluetooth device and the Mac will restart if I try to wake it from sleep.
Now if I connect the keyboard with the lightning cable and check pmset -g again, there is nothing preventing sleep and I can put the Hack to sleep and wake it without it restarting...Oh Apple

Finally, so is it 11.2.3 which fixed it, yeah?

Yeah, that's the normal way. Looks promising.

Sure.

Never had such problems at all. Although, can be checked and resolved further.

So, definitely, something is with Bluetooth. What Bluetooth module are you using?

Actually it's on 12.2, I also have 11.2.3 installed but focused on Monterey

It's not really intuitive really but now I know hehe

That's probably because you are using wired keyboard and mouse. Apple messed up Bluetooth with Monterey working on their next big thing, Universal Control also "prevent bluetooth device from waking this computer" or whatever it was called is gone from Monterey and has not been replaced. Genuine Macs and MacBooks are affected by this both with Intel and M chips. Apple released 11.2.1 that fixed this but only made it available for MacBooks.

I've read that this issue has finally been addressed by Apple for iMacs in the latest 11.3 Beta and that users running it do not face bluetooth issues anymore.

For reference my BT/Wifi module is the BCM94360NG. I picked this one as I could fit it directly on the motherboard's wifi/bt port replacing the Intel module ;)

Ah ok. Did you run an update?

Lol. I'm using Apple Magic Mouse and Keyboard, connected via BT. xD

Yeah, they always update, and things break.

Not using Monterey at least for now. Still on Big Sur.

That's also a supported card. Should work OOTB, without the need of any kext. Although, I prefer BCM94352Z. I remember the connector is set to 255.

Maybe try to add BlueToolFixup and then check.

nope currently running 12.2 and 11.2.3 on the same disk. Just checked for errors, no updates

Ha but you are still running Big Sur; th Bluetooth mess is a Monterey "feature" xD

Yeah, they always update, and things break.
I think that I won't jump on MacOS 13 later this year.... Love MacOS but the last two, three releases have been quite bug prone

It works perfectly well but if Apple leaves a bug behind.... xD
I'll wait for 12.3 to see if it fixes this bug as it really appears to happen on genuine Apple computers, if it doesn't I'll try BlueToolFixup.kext.

If I use it, in which position would it need to be in the config.plist? Current order is:
  • Lilu.kext
  • VirtualSMC.kext
  • WhateverGreen.kext
  • AppleALC.kext
  • USBPorts.kext
  • LucyRTL8125Ethernet.kext
