GUIDE Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake) on Laptop [Clover/OpenCore]

Hi Guys, I have LG 17 Gram 17z990 uhd 620 whiskey lake, i7-8565u with 10.14.5 installed. qe/ci and metal works fine with device-id 0xA53E0000, AAPL,ig-platform-id 0x00009B3E and framebuffer patch. Now I'm trying to install 10.15.4 and have faced with a problem. I can boot only with device-id 0xA53E0000 and no qe/ci When I'm trying to boot with device-id 0xA53E0000 and any possible AAPL,ig-platform-id I have a panic on appleintelcflgraphicsframebuffer. How to fix this? I attached efi folder with clover configuration for both 10.14.5 and 10.15.4 as well as ioreg with weg dumps I made in 10.14.5

Thank you, Dmitry

I am not an expert, but if you read this thread, for me the problem was to don't have exactly the UEFI drivers and KEXT that EliteMacx86 says. In my clover zip attached you can see the drivers and kext that i had (are not expecific for my hardware, are generic for laptops). I have seen that you have another drivers and another kexts. You can try this and if all work, keep with your specific kext for your laptop.

Good luck!

The configuration is not upto the mark. Start here:

Yes, yesterday i tried to do that and i got kernel panic, so my "conclusions" that both config was the same and the only difference was the 2 parameters of your guide was an error (for sure you knew it).

Maybe i didn't check correctly or there is something that clover configuration does not show. I will keep trying :D
It should work. Boot with invalid one. Build kextcache. Use HD620 config.plist with the two modifications. Restart and check

Thank you for the tip. With some modifications to your config I was able to boot with we/ci. However, audio and hdmi that worked in mojave does not work in catalina and system reboots with panic every 10-15 minutes. Nevertheless, this is a proof of concept that qe/ci on my laptop can work in catalina.

Having some progress with qe/ci I spent all the day trying to figure out the reason of random reboot with panic. I thought that if something works in mojave, it should work in catalina. It was wrong idea. Today I'll start from scratch. Will post here the results.
Thank you

Framebuffer patching is required.

Yeah, start from scratch. It will be better.

Hi guys, after several days of struggling with 10.15.4 I gave up and installed 10.15.3 with clover 5102. With this configuration everything works just perfect. With 10.15.3 the laptop is more completely supported than in 10.14.5 which I used before.
Works:
  • qe/ci, metal
  • intel audio with applealc and custom layout
  • hdmi output (audio and video)
  • sleep/wake all devices.
  • lid close/open
  • embedded intel bluetooth
  • battery indicator
  • screen dimming
Does not work:
  • wifi (I'm still waiting for intel wifi driver, use usb dongle at the moment)
  • card reader
  • apfs booting. At the the moment only hfs boot supported
Not tested
  • thunderbolt

Here is the link to EFI folder: https://drive.google.com/file/d/12F0lvUKEgLVyOlFL1EYkBw3KwanMTMLo/view?usp=sharing It is too big to be posted here.

So at the moment the only annoying thing is inability to boot from apfs. The booting process just stuck on aptiomemoryfix and I can't go further. Any help would be very much appreciated

Thank you, Dmitry

card reader
For most of the PCI Card Readers are not supported. So no solution at all.

Is the drive in APFS or HFS format?

I know. Fortunately there is a work in progress here https://github.com/cholonam/Sinetek-rtsx/tree/develop

The one that can be booted is HFS. The one that can not be booted is APFS

I tried both approaches. None works with apfs.

Hopefully things can be achieved in future. :)

Make sure the drive is formatted in APFS format.

Which approach are you talking about? Did you fixed the configuration?

Yes, it is formatted as apfs and yes, it is booting quite well on another host.

Yes I fixed configuration and it works fine now. Only apfs booting problem still persists. I mean 2 approaches. One based on smchelper.efi and fakesmc.kext you refer to me and another one based on virtualsmc.efi and virtualsmc.kext which I use in my configuration.
