Fix Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake) on Laptop

An EliteMacx86 Exclusive Guide - This guide covers fixing of Intel UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake) on Laptop. By following this guide, you'll be able to achieve full QE/CI on your Hackintosh.

Overview

macOS supports a wide range of Intel HD Graphics (also referred to as iGPU) but some of them might not work out of the box, if you have not followed the config.plist creation guide.

Before you start with this guide, please know something about the performance. Graphics enhance the performance and helps to work smoothly. In macOS, full acceleration requires that both Quartz Extreme and Core Image (QE/CI) should work together.

Quartz Extreme and Core Image (QE/CI) should work together to enable full acceleration on macOS’s GUI. It utilizes the complete Graphics capabilities. In case if you haven’t enabled QE/CI on your graphic card, you won’t be able to use your macOS smoothly and there would be lots of lags and artifacts, graphic related issues and poor refresh rate. Also the dock would not be transparent. Therefore it is very important to ensure that your graphic is working with full QE/CI.

Requirements

GraphicsIntel UHD Graphics 620 (Whiskey Lake)
KextsOriginal Graphics kexts in S/L/E
macOS VersionmacOS Mojave 10.14.1 or later

BIOS Setting

The BIOS settings has been provided in a separate thread. For more information on BIOS settings, refer to the thread linked below.

Config.plist

The config.plist file must be as per the guide.

For Clover:

1. Mount the EFI partition of your system drive.
2. Navigate to EFI\Clover and open your config.plist with Clover Configurator.
3. Navigate to Acpi tab and add the following patch in DSDT section of your config.plist.
Code:
Properties Key: AAPL, ig-platform-id
Properties Value: 0900A53E
Value Type: DATA

Code:
Properties Key: device-id
Properties Value: A53E0000
Value Type: DATA

4. Save your config.plist file.

For OpenCore:

Notes :
  • The config.plist must be according to the following guide.
  • You must use "config_HD615_620_630_640_650.plist"

Additional Note:
  • On some Laptops, after fixing the Graphics, you may result in a black screen. For more information, check the backlight guide here:

Restart your System

After performing all the above steps, restart your system for the applied changes to take effect.
Now you should be able to get your Intel UHD Graphics 1536 MB will full QE/CI. And your Dock would be also transparent.

Hi, I have such a mini-PC and I just can not get the graphics to work with acceleration
tried many different platform-id and device-id, as well as various other combinations up to exotic ones

What's the point to quote and mention the same things again and again?

No PR files attached.

I did not understand how to get these pr files

I just answered in this thread so as not to create a new one, as you managed to notice, this is not a laptop or a stationary computer
That's not a problem. It's kinda NUC

Thanks for your amazing contribution :)

Can You make a [Fix] for Intel UHD 620 (Kaby Lake) ... because the old fix is too old and there are a better alternatives like this FIX here

Yes, i'll update the guide. This is for specifically Whiskey Lake.

First off, thanks for the guide! I can't seem to get acceleration working on my Whiskey Lake UHD 620 (i7-8565u), GPU Device ID 0x3EA0 according to ARK. The system will boot with no acceleration with only an ig-platform-id set, but setting a device-id will prevent booting. Verbose boot shows a few lines starting with [IGPU] that seem to indicate that a graphics driver is successfully loading, but gIOScreenLockState 3 follows and boot stops.

I have tried both Coffee Lake and Kaby Lake properties that have been known to work on other UHD 620 systems. I've attached PR files as requested - happy to provide any additional information!

Often, Dell XPS comes with UHD/4K panel. What's your screen? 1080p or UHD/4K?

Sorry, forgot to mention yes it's a 4K panel. Dedicated video memory in Windows shows 128MB, so I don't think DVMT allocation is a problem? Did try using the patches though, no effect that I could tell
