Hello,

My System runs Sonoma with an imac Pro 1.1 smbios - without bigger problems so far. I have a i9 10900kf CPU with a Radeon 6900XT

But the idle power consumption is to high with imacpro bios - about 85W
When I choose smbios for imac 20.2 (which has the best fitting cpu) the system goes down to 60W idle power consumption.

That is ok (windows on my system archieves 45W) but with the imac 20.2 smbios the GPU hardware accelareation isnt working :-(

So - what to do? - either bring hardware acceleration back to work or lower power consumption with imac pro smbios?

The CPU has no IGPU, the appropriate SMBIOS is iMac Pro.

When the acceleration does not work, it does not fully utilize the GPU, therefore less power is drawn.

How are you exactly calculating the power draw though?

"When the acceleration does not work, it does not fully utilize the GPU, therefore less power is drawn"

I dont think so, because the radeon 6900xt has a idle power draw of about 7W (the system reaches low idle in windows with full support of all components) and acceleration s working with imac 2.2 only the hardware decoder isn't working then - I guess the high power draw is due the wrong CPU configuration with imacPro bios because it's for xenon cpus.

I measure the consumption with a wifi smart plug - its relativ precise about 1W deviation.

Of course, the GPU will draw power but not as much when it works with a full acceleration. In your first post, you mentioned that acceleration isn't working with iMac SMBIOS. Hardware Decoding is a separate thingy.

Okay.

Provide your EFI to check further.

Sry - that was inprecise.

Acceleration IS working Radeon 6900xt with imac 20.2 smbios but NOT hardware decoding.

Setting smbios to imac pro 1.1 brings hardware decoding to work but idle power draw rises by about 25W

EFI is here:

I found out that the complete intel power mangement is not working on my system - how to enable this?

Also, attach your copy of IOReg.

Ah, there we go. The reason for higher power consumption is here as the CPU PM is not working.

Did it in exactly that way - seems now to be active, or not? - but idle power draw still about 20W higher than windows 11 on my system

65W Hackintosh
45W Win 11

Also Intel Power Gadget doesnt show anything - I cant check the frequencies there

CPU PM seems implemented.

You'll need to allow extensions before you can monitor.
