[FAILURE] Monterey on HP Compaq Elite 8300 All-In-One

Use Ubuntu to extract the EDID image and then inject it.
I don't have/use Ubuntu, and I already have extracted all the EDID.
Please, check this and tell me if I can try it.

Well, I tried anyway.

But there was the same issue I got with my previous experiments...
You understood there was only the external monitor that works, yes ?
So, this time, it only displays an extended desktop, without icons, dock...
By luck, I could change the display, so I could access the desktop.

But, and I know YOU need to understand what to do, but you're walking in my previous tracks. No offense intended.
I mean : I already did all this things, to Monterey and to Big Sur.
The farthest i went : still no display on the embedded screen (a.k.a HQP 8300).

By looking the 3rd pic, do "Internal" shouldn't be checked for the HQP to work ?

How did you extract the EDID exactly?

Note that not all OSes and software does a correct EDID reading and some trial version may not even export the full EDID.

Secondly, is the LCD panel replaced/changed or is it the factory one?

Have a look.

If you look at the AIO backside, the motherboard is the right half of it, there's a pic above.
I only replaced the motherboard.
But as this HP was an university gift, I dunno its age, neither if parts were replaced.

It didn't boot all the time, so after deep testing, I concluded to a dead motherboard.
So, I replaced it, and now it's fully functioning.

About extracting the EDID ? I used a software that displayed it in $hex, and do a copy-paste.
Check the joined files, they contain monitor name, so I guess I did the right move.

Just to clarify : even I'm a total n00b with Macs, I'm not totally stupid, and I have a long computers way behind me ;-)

I've been thinking...Monterey doesn't have Ivy drivers natively, so you have to add them later.

However, when I simply install it, the HQP works perfectly well. Only after patching does it remain black.

Why is that?

Shouldn't we look a little in that direction to understand what changes next? Since Big Sur seems to be doing the same...

Also, Monterey without the Ivy patch only displays 1280x1024: what if we tried to make it display 1920x1080, which is its native resolution?

If we can't, then it would probably mean that there's an incompatibility between this HP and macOS...?

Or try the same thing with Big Sur, removing everything you've added in “Device Properties”?

Reminder: this HQP has never displayed larger than 1280x1024. Except under Windows, of course.

Well, it's not about being stupid or noob, but for the clarification 🙃

That's because when there is no graphics driver, the GPU runs in VESA mode. And when you install the graphics driver, the result is same.

Will check the files soon. However, do note that even if an app lists the monitor details, it could be still very likely possible that the extracted EDID is not correct.

Yeah, I know. But you can trust me, I checked several times. Even on Windows 10, and we can trust him about that :)

And without the EDID injection, there is no HQP found, but it comes after injection.
If you watch closely, after injection, Big Sur reports it as 23 inches (that is correct) and 1080p (that is also correct). So, if there is an error, it's by the devil himself ^^

Alright. But can you answer what method and what software did you use to extract the EDID?

Using a clone copy, I kept searching...
Knowing the LG can do 4K and the HQP only 1080p, I changed the screen resolution to 1080p : in case of HQP receives >1080p and was out of range...

Then, I noticed something strange : in System Configuration, HQP seems to be set exactly as the LG...
Something came to my mind : what if HQP & LG are cloned displays ?

After that, I tried to play with DP, and the joined pic is my best try.
And on the last pic, shouldn't the HQP need to have "Internal" checked ?

What do you think, these can help ?
