Hello everyone!
The biggest obstacle I'm facing when trying to get a recent version of macOS installed on my computer is graphics support.
More than a year ago I spent quite a lot of time trying to get the Intel HD530 integrated graphics to work on Monterey with no success.
I noticed two guides that could be of help: one for iGPU on Ventura and the other for dGPU on Monterey.

Which should I follow?
Is it likely for nvidia support to be patched in to newer versions of macOS or will I be stranded on Monterey for the foreseeable future like I used to be on Sierra?
Is the functionality for disabling the desktop discrete GPU in favour of using the iGPU working better? I suspect that was the cause of my previous troubles.

Thank you.

Hello,

As per the specs indicated in your profile, you seem to have Intel i5-6600K which offers Intel HD Graphics 530 and then you also have NVIDIA GTX 1070. The system can be configured in three ways.

- IGPU only
- dGPU only
- IGPU in Headless mode and dGPU for Display

Now, talking about the Support, the IGPU is natively supported up to macOS Monterey. Whereas, the dGPU is only supported on macOS High Sierra. Natively here means official compatibility support from Apple.

The IGPU can be patched on macOS Ventura with 100% success and with the typical functions, including Encoding (H.264 and H.265). The dGPU can also be patched, but it is purely experimental and is not really meant for production machines. NVIDIA has stopped the official support for Mac since Mojave and no drivers were released for Mojave and newer.

In short, use the IGPU for now, if you don't have much editing needs. If you have editing needs, sell off your NVIDIA GPU and get a compatible AMD GPU. You can find the Compatibility list below.

Hope this helps!

That's exactly the kind of clarification I was looking for.
I am going to try (again) to have the iGPU working and the dGPU disabled.
Thank you for your help.
