Mojave Working Perfectly - Catalina Hangs on Boot (Graphics) UHD620 Chromebox i7

Done, No Mods. Only enabled is the EC0 patch and -V flag (or I'd be here till next year wondering if I should wait longer for it to boot).

Still hangs at the same point as the Photo in my OP

Can only boot into Catalina if I disable device ID

PR Attached.

The kextcache output is not complete.
The configuration looks good now.

Can you attach it once again?

GPU Device ID?

Any other flags I should use ?

Great

GPU Device ID?

Platform ID: 59160009
Device ID: 59160000 is what "should" work

(I have also tried CFL ID/Platform that works perfectly in Mojave with exactly the same freeze on boot in Catalina).

I've also uploaded a Slow Mo video of the boot sequence. maybe it will help diagnose the problem, but basically Catalina hangs at exactly the same point as post #1

Just wait for the process to complete and attach a screenshot or export it to text.

Yes.

What ID you tried?

Thank you for providing additional information. However, the video is private. You must unlist it.

Try this guide.

Sorry about that, Video is public now

Kext Cache output attached.

The Coffeelake Platform ID that also works fine in Mojave is: 0x3EA50004 (shows as Iris Plus 655)

Oh and for what its worth, the new up-to-scratch "clean" config will not allow Mojave to boot correctly without some modification.

E.g. platform ID was incorrect (091b0000 instead of 09160000), if frame buffer is enabled it boots to a pink hue, boot flag issues and a few other things that I'm going through one-by-one.

Maybe something there will help in getting Catalina's graphics to work properly.

Pink screen is a common issue and can be fixed. Check with the Whiskey Lake guide i linked. If that doesn't works, try the following.

Revert back to the original config.plist which was before modifying the device ID and ig-platform-id for Whiskey Lake.
Remove all the # from the device properties to boot. Check if it works.
Remove all the Device properties from your config.plist. Check if it works.

Report with both the PR files and one Whiskey Lake change.

The Pink screen is in MOJAVE - I can easily fix it.

Honestly there is just too much unnecessary laptop junk in that plist.

I have narrowed down the issue to this:

IF ANY valid device-id is used Catalina will freeze at the exact same point.

I have tried booting with ID's for Whiskeylake, Kabylake and Skylake with the same issue.

Even if all other properties are removed, And ONLY the device-id is changed, Catalina will freeze on boot at the same point.

Mojave vs Catalina
In Mojave I do not even require ig-platform-id for QE/CI

ONLY the device ID is required if the whiskey lake device-id is used (see screenshot)

Whats happening Catalina

So far as I can see, something in Catalina is either preventing the ID to be changed or preventing the native driver loading once the ID has been changed successfully.

I will send PR files in a short while, but pretty sure they will not show anything significant, none of the changes made any difference whatsoever to Booting Catalina successfully.

Okay. The forum already has a guide for it. :)

WEG injects it automatically.

And what if you don't use a Whiskey Lake Device ID?

Try the config.plist from here:

Just enable EC0 patch and change the SMBIOS to iMac Pro1,1. If that doesn't boots, try using iMac 18,3, or 19,1.

Report and reply with new files.

Only with the Whiskey Lake ID.

And what if you don't use a Whiskey Lake Device ID?

Mojave will boot QE/CI with with any device-ID I throw at it, WKL/KBL/SKL ID's no problem whatsoever (Just need to add ig-platform for KBL/SKL).

While Catalina will not boot with any ID ... complete opposites of each other
