macOS Golden Gate (27.0) Compatibility List - Will Your Mac Support it?
Today, at WWDC 2026, Apple announced their new macOS version i.e. macOS Golden Gate. With this release, Apple has also changed its OS version naming style, followed by its predecessor macOS Tahoe.Whenever Apple releases a new version of its Operating System, one of the most common questions that arise is, “Will my Mac be compatible?” With the highly anticipated macOS 27 Golden Gate, it is no different. Luckily, we have an answer to your question.
If you're not new to Mac, you might be aware that whenever Apple releases a new version of its Operating System, regardless of the lineup, either Mac or other segments, it particularly drops the support for older models which makes them obsolete. With the release of macOS Golden Gate, Apple has continued dropping the support for older Macs. Unfortunately, no Macs from 2019 and older are supported by macOS Golden Gate. Provided that, you'll either need a iMac, Mac Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini from 2020 or newer to run macOS Golden Gate. Fortunately, no Silicon models have been dropped as of now and if you're having a Silicon-based Mac, you can experience macOS Golden Gate with ease. However, please note that as this is a beta release, hence problems are expected.
Unfortunately, there is a sad news for Intel Mac users as Apple has completely dropped the support since macOS Golden Gate and not even a single Intel based Mac model is supported and the Intel era has finally come to an end. As the support for Intel Macs are removed, this means you can no longer boot macOS Golden Gate on it unless you're using a Silicon based Mac. However, it should be noted that X64 based apps are still supported on the Silicon Macs using the Rosetta feature. In addition, it should be noted that there is complete no go as of now for reviving old Intel Macs using Open Core Legacy Patcher (OCLP).
Apple generally offers software support for approximately five to seven years in its Mac lineup. Those with older Macs might not be able to upgrade to the latest Operating System, but will still be able to use the maximum supported version of macOS as per the particular Mac model.
macOS Golden (27.0) supports Silicon-based Macs only. This hardware list comes directly from Apple's Official Website. Read the official macOS Golden Gate System Compatibility list to confirm whether your current Mac hardware is supported and is capable of running macOS 27. While it's still in Beta, macOS Golden Gate is coming this fall.

- MacBook Neo
- MacBook Air (2020 and later)
- MacBook Pro (2020 and later)
- Mac mini (2020 and later)
- iMac (2021 and later)
- Mac Studio (2022 and later)
- Mac Pro (2023 and later)

Apple has announced that macOS Golden Gate will be available in the fall, and there are currently beta versions available for those in the beta testing programs for macOS.
