Hello, trying to get audio working on Big Sur 11.6.1

Followed the OpenCore Guide and used Lilu and AppleALC for audio. My MOBO is a Asus Rampage IV Extreme with ALC 898 Audio listed on the spec sheet. However, it is coming up as ALC 899 in Hackintool. Not sure is that makes a difference as AppleALC lists them together. My AppleHDA.kext is vanilla and I'm letting the AppleALC.kext do all the patching. The device tree shows up in Ioregistryexplorer under HDEF and I've tried all the different layout ids. I've had audio working before on High Sierra under layout 1 and recently had audio working in Monterey (PM was not working for my 3930K so had to go to Big Sur).

Any help is appreciated and I'm available for troubleshooting.

Thank You!

You're missing HDAS to HDEF rename.

Thank you for reaching out! I have tried the method in this guide but still the same result. Also, I believe that patch is now handled by the AppleALC.kext and is depreciated when using opencore. It is noted here in the audio section. However, I still attempted it and had no luck. Any other ideas? I also tried an SSDT that preforms the same function as well.

Thanks

Try to set Layout ID=99.

Layout ID 99 took away a few of the other outputs but still nothing on the green output on the back or the headphone port on the front of the case.

Are you sure that the device you're checking with is fully functional?

AppleALC must be loaded after WEG in sorted order.

Yes the device is in full working order. WEG is loaded 3rd after LILU and Virtual SMC. AppleALC is last after a few other kexts. Does it need be loaded immediately after WEG?

Also I’m starting to think the audio hardware is broken on the MOBO. I reinstalled Monterey (was working 3 days ago) on an alternate drive with the original EFI folder and it was broken on Monterey now.

I’m going to install windows and that will be the telltale if the hardware is bad.

This should be the order. In OpenCore, the sorting order is important.

Could be broken. A quick way to check is to install Windows on a separate drive or check using Live Ubuntu USB.

Sounds good!

Whelp, looks like MOBO audio shorted out. Tried Windows and it was saying I was plugging in to ports that I wasn't. Ex green port would show up as orange or other ports would be multiple ports. Thankfully optical out is running fine and working in MacOS.

Thanks for your help on this but it looks like it was never an issue with kexts or Opencore.

Don't forget to make sure your hardware is what's broken. And Optical may be your saving grace.
