I recently got myself an ASUS XG27AQMR 1440p HDR monitor.

After plugging it in and booting into macOS, I’ve noticed that the HDR setting on the monitor’s OSD is grayed out and that the macOS display settings don’t display anything related to HDR.

The display support HDR10 at 600nits (VESA DisplayHDR 600) so it should show up on macOS.

(It’s connected over DisplayPort on my AMD RX6600XT).

I’ve also noticed that I can only set the refreshrate to 240Hz, while the monitor supports 300Hz (with overclocking as stated in the manual).

Is there anything special I need to do in my OpenCore config to get HDR (and maybe even 300Hz) to work?

Thanks in advance

Some monitor do not support HDR over HDMI/DP. The same applies for the display connection as well. For example, one of the LG 38WQ88C-W monitor we have has a spec of 75Hz but only over HDMI. Only 60Hz is supported over DP and Type-C.

You can try to reset the monitor, unplug the display cable and then plug it again and it should show the HDR feature. It could be also possible that your monitor needs some specific mode such as Gaming mode for HDR to function.

Specifical tweaks are only needed for IGPU.

I checked ASUS's documentation and it has nothing about port/mode specific stuff
Other than the fact that HDMI can't do over 144Hz, but I'm connected over DP anyways

I also tried resetting the monitor & unplugging it but nothing changed

I tried this monitor on my iPad and its showing HDR

ok, apparently I need to be on 60-200Hz to be able to use HDR... (anything higher won't work)
seems like a macOS issue though

Also, I was able to enable 300Hz on Linux out of the box with no issues.

As for macOS, I tried to use the `-igfxmpc` arg which didn't change a thing (saw that it was for Intel GPUs but wanted to try it either way)

Umm, does it work fine on other OSes though?

Do you have any Silicon or Intel Mac which does not uses IGPU? If so, try connecting this monitor and check whether its the OS or the hacks only

With HDR?

Yes, that will only make an effect on IGPUs.
