Hello everyone,

I’m trying to install Sequoia, but it keeps getting stuck at the Apple logo with the progress bar that won’t move. I created a USB installation drive with Mist.app using the latest version of macOS Sequoia (15.0.1). I boot my Hackintosh from this USB to install the system, having previously copied the EFI folder to the EFI partition, which I mounted with OpenCore Configurator.

Currently, I’m using Ventura, which works but has a few limitations.

Here’s what’s working perfectly on Ventura:
  • My CPU is configured and recognized properly.
  • My GPU is configured and recognized properly.
  • Temperature sensors work flawlessly.
  • Fan management (SMC FAN) works perfectly with AMD Power Gadget.
  • iCloud, iMessages, and other Apple services work perfectly.
  • The system is very stable, fast, and never crashes.
Here’s what isn’t working on Ventura:
  • My ASUS Aura control for RGB lighting isn’t working because the AURA MOTHERBOARD doesn’t appear in the USB bus/USB Device Tree.
  • The Aureal.app doesn’t detect the controller.
  • OpenRGB doesn't detect my configuration and crashes whenever I try to "Rescan Devices." The Log Console shows an error: I2C/SMBus interfaces failed to initialize. I also have a Logitech keyboard and mouse that aren’t recognized, so I can’t control their LED colors.
  • Wi-Fi isn’t working (likely a chipset issue) – I’m using Ethernet with LucyRTL8125Ethernet.kext.
  • Bluetooth isn’t working (likely a chipset issue).
  • Motherboard audio isn’t working (likely a chipset issue) – I’m using an external USB sound card (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6).
All my USB ports seem to work with USBToolBox.kext and UTBMap.kext. I tried regenerating a UTBMap.kext with USBToolBox on Windows, where it correctly detects my ASUS Aura motherboard, but Ventura gets stuck halfway through loading. I also tried Hackintool on macOS, but I get a black screen after selecting the startup disk in the EFI boot menu.

I read on the forum that one user had a problem due to a mismatch between USBMap.kext and the SMBIOS in config.plist. I’m using the SMBIOS for MacPro 7.1, but I’m not sure if my USBMap.kext is using it as well.

In OpenCore Configurator, under PlatformInfo, my information is quite limited:
  • DataHub is empty
  • In Generic, the ROM field is missing
  • Platform NVRAM is empty
  • Memory under PlatformInfo is also empty
  • SMBIOS is empty as well
Here's my setup:
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF X670e Plus WIFI "BIOS 1636 2023/08/04" (I tried updating to a more recent BIOS version, but Ventura wouldn’t boot, so I had to downgrade).
  • RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB 2x16GB 6000 MHz EXPO
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 8-Core Processor
  • GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6950XT 16GB
  • SSD: WD BLACK SN850X 2TB
For the Sequoia update, I’ve configured and checked the following:
  • Core count is correct
  • OpenCore bootloader updated to 1.0.1
  • All kexts are updated
  • Latest AMD Hackintosh patches are installed
  • ResizeAppleGpuBars is set to -1 in config.plist, and Resizable BAR is disabled in the BIOS
I’m really stuck and unsure what else to try. I’ve read through the forums, followed all guides and suggestions, but nothing is working. As advised, I removed the system serial number, system UUID, and MLB from PlatformInfo in the config.plist before sharing here, as iCloud and iMessage work perfectly.

Could someone take a look at my EFI/config and help guide me?

Thank you so much for any help!

I made a few adjustments to my EFI this morning, and I can finally boot the Sequoia installer. The system is in Russian, but with my experience, I should manage. I'll keep you updated on my progress and will share my EFI again if everything works out.

Firstly, you should try to sort the issues on Ventura and then try updating it to Sequoia. Attach the EFI to check.

You can change the language from the config.plist.

Hello,

Thank you for your advice! I was able to successfully update to Sequoia 15.0.1 by modifying my EFI. Initially, I thought I had updated Lilu.kext and WhateverGreen.kext, but it turned out I hadn’t, which caused the Sequoia installation to stall on startup.

After updating those files, my USB installation drive booted correctly, and I was able to perform a fresh install of Sequoia on a test SSD, then import my data from my main Ventura drive. Once I confirmed that everything was working well, I copied my new EFI to my Ventura drive and completed the update without any issues.

Everything is very stable on Sequoia 15.0.1, with no system crashes.

I still have a few questions:

For PlatformInfo - DataHub - Generic: Are the current fields in this section sufficient? (They appear blurred).
Screenshot 2024-10-29 at 18.59.20.png
PlatformInfo - Memory: This section is empty.
Screenshot 2024-10-29 at 18.59.25.png
PlatformInfo - SMBIOS: This section is also empty.
Screenshot 2024-10-29 at 18.59.29.png
Kernel/Add section: Are my .kext files in the correct order, and is it normal that I don’t have an ExecutablePath for AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext?
Screenshot 2024-10-29 at 18.58.26.png

Regarding the USB detection issue with my AURA MOTHERBOARD:
Despite trying with Hackintool (with the USB2/USB3/USBC key), the system shuts down when I remove a USB key from one of the ports. If I reduce the USB port count in Hackintool to fewer than 15, the system gets stuck halfway through startup, with the Apple logo and progress bar halfway filled.
Using USBToolBox on Windows, it correctly detects my ASUS Aura motherboard and all USB ports, but the same startup problem occurs.
I also considered disabling USB ports from the BIOS, but I haven’t tried that yet. Currently, all ports work, both on the motherboard and case, including the one that causes the system to crash when I remove a USB device.

WiFi/Bluetooth issue :
Since my motherboard uses a MediaTek chipset, I understand there are no kext drivers available. I'd like to replace the mini PCI Express card at the back of the motherbord (in the shield) without adding an PCI Fenvi card, as the 50% glass casing would look less aesthetically pleasing. I’m still researching which mini PCI Express card to purchase as a replacement; from my understanding, Broadcom or Intel might work.

Internal audio chipset (Realtek S1220A)
I believe it could work with AppleALC.kext, though I haven’t tested it, as I currently use an external USB audio interface (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6) for music production, and it works perfectly. The internal audio chipset has been disabled in the BIOS.

I’ve included a copy of my EFI here, with system serial number, system UUID, and MLB removed from PlatformInfo in config.plist.

Thank you again for all your help!

Happens. xD

That's why, always double check to ensure. Saves a lot of time debugging!

Yes, is sufficient!

PlatformInfo - Memory: This section is empty.

Should be empty. If the memory are not recognized correctly, the memory parameters can be defined in this section, otherwise not required at all.

PlatformInfo - SMBIOS: This section is also empty.
Screenshot 2024-10-29 at 18.59.29.png
DataHub/Generic/SMBIOS, either is fine. If you're using OCC, you can have the SMBIOS section as well.

Kernel/Add section: Are my .kext files in the correct order, and is it normal that I don’t have an ExecutablePath for AppleMCEReporterDisabler.kext?
Screenshot 2024-10-29 at 18.58.26.png
Usually, the correct Kext order for AMD builds would be:

Lilu
VSMC
MCEReporter
Sensor kexts
WEG
AppleALC
USB
Ethernet
RestrictEvents

Why are you using AMDRadeonNavi2xExt.kext?

Despite trying with Hackintool (with the USB2/USB3/USBC key), the system shuts down when I remove a USB key from one of the ports. If I reduce the USB port count in Hackintool to fewer than 15, the system gets stuck halfway through startup, with the Apple logo and progress bar halfway filled.Using USBToolBox on Windows, it correctly detects my ASUS Aura motherboard and all USB ports, but the same startup problem occurs.I also considered disabling USB ports from the BIOS, but I haven’t tried that yet. Wrong mapping probably. Have a couple of ASUS boards and no such issues.

Use Broadcom if you want to have functions like AirDrop and Handoff. Please note that BCM cards require root patching from Sonoma onwards. If you don't want such feature and looking for some normal WiFi/BT, with near to native support, then go for Intel. For Intel, you can go for WiFi 6 models. Guides are available on the forum, for both!

Internal audio chipset (Realtek S1220A)I believe it could work with AppleALC.kext, though I haven’t tested it, as I currently use an external USB audio interface (Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6) for music production, and it works perfectly. The internal audio chipset has been disabled in the BIOS.
Its a rebranded ALC1220 which is natively supported by AppleALC. Please note that there are several threads regarding AMD builds where the Audio does not work on Sequoia. Your profile indicates you have macOS Ventura, so it should be good. You just need a proper layout ID injection via boot args.

Hi, thank you for the helpful advice!

I’ve reordered the .kext files as you suggested and removed AMDRadeonNavi2xExt.kext, but I’m still experiencing system freezes on startup. I’ll run some additional tests to determine whether the issue is due to the missing AMDRadeonNavi2xExt.kext or the .kext loading order.

Screenshot.jpg

I had read on a forum that AMDRadeonNavi2xExt.kext was necessary for managing the GPU card's LED with OpenRGB. However, if it's not needed, I can definitely remove it.

Next, I’ll regenerate the USB map using USBToolBox on Windows to see if that clears things up.

For WiFi and Bluetooth, I’ll go with a Broadcom card since I’d like full functionality, including AirDrop and Handoff. I’ll also check the forum for setup tips and any root patching requirements, thanks for pointing that out!

I realized I hadn’t updated my profile since upgrading to Sequoia. I’m actually running Sequoia 15.01 rather than Ventura. For the layout ID injection; as II don't know how it's working, I'll look and read on the forum too make sure that’s configured correctly.

Thanks again for your time and all the guidance!

Successfully updated to Sequoia 15.1.

I had to download the full installer via Mist.app because it wasn’t showing up in Software Update within System Preferences.

Everything works perfectly. No Apple Intelligence, as it’s not available on x86. Screenshot.png

Freeze when idle or during any task?

Can you link the source here?

You have the XTX variant so just spoofing the Device ID to 73BF will do the job!

Sounds good!

Yes, sadly the support was removed and there has no new method to use the WiFi/BT natively.

I realized I hadn’t updated my profile since upgrading to Sequoia. I’m actually running Sequoia 15.01 rather than Ventura.
Seems like you did it now :)

Follow the Audio Guide and you should be able to get it.
