macOS Tahoe (26.0) Compatibility List - Will Your Mac Support it?

Today, at WWDC 2025, Apple announced their new macOS version i.e. macOS Tahoe. With this release, Apple has also changed its OS version naming style. As it was expected to be named 16 for macOS Tahoe, but that's not the case. Instead of using the 16, Apple has named it as version 26. This name style was changed at the time of Big Sur as well. Instead of naming Big Sur 10.16, Apple changed the naming style and Big Sur was named 11.

Whenever Apple releases a new version of its Operating System, one of the most common questions that arise is, “Will my Mac be compatible?” With the highly anticipated macOS 26 Tahoe, it is no different. Luckily, we have an answer to your question.

If you're not new to Mac, you might be aware that whenever Apple releases a new version of its Operating System, regardless of the lineup, either Mac or other segments, it particularly drops the support for older models which makes them obsolete. With the release of macOS Tahoe, Apple has continued dropping the support for older Macs. Unfortunately, no Macs from 2018 and older are supported by macOS Tahoe. Provided that, you'll either need a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, or Mac mini from 2019 or newer, or an iMac or Mac Pro from 2019 or newer to run macOS Tahoe. Fortunately, no Silicon models have been dropped as of now and if you're having a Silicon-based Mac, you can experience macOS Tahoe with ease. However, please note that as this is a beta release, problems are expected.

Unfortunately, this is quite sad news for Intel users as of now, the last Intel Mac mini (2018) is also not supported and the famous iMacPro (2017) that was beast at the time of its release and was the second most powerful Mac model than the last Mac Pro (Intel based), is no longer supported.

Apple generally offers software support for approximately five to seven years in its Mac lineup. Those with older Macs might not be able to upgrade to the latest Operating System, but will still be able to use the maximum supported version of macOS as per the particular Mac model.

macOS Tahoe (26.0) supports both Apple Silicon Macs and Intel-based Macs. This hardware list comes directly from Apple's Official Website. Read the official macOS Tahoe System Compatibility list to confirm whether your current Mac hardware is supported and is capable of running macOS 26. While it's still in Beta, macOS Tahoe is coming this fall.

Following are the list of compatible Mac models which supports macOS Tahoe:
  • MacBook Air (2020 and later)
  • MacBook Pro (2019 and later)
  • Mac mini (2020 and later)
  • iMac (2020 and later)
  • Mac Pro (2019 and later)
  • Mac Studio (2022 and later)

If you're not sure which Mac model you have, you can check it using Apple Menu>About This Mac. If you find that you have a compatible Mac model, as per the above compatibility list, you can enjoy running macOS Tahoe.

Apple has announced that macOS Tahoe will be available in the fall, and there are currently beta versions available for those in the beta testing programs for macOS.

For comparison purposes, these are the Macs that are currently supported on macOS Sequoia:
  • MacBook Air (2020 and later)
