im looking to put a more modern system into the shell of a G4 15" imac. itx or mini itx, thinking amd gpu. im limited to around 250-300w as im building a PSU for this and it needs to fit.

in reading i saw one guide that said up to 12th gen, another that seems to list work arounds for anything newer than 10th, lack of igpu support?? bottom line - what generation intel should i focus on here? i have a i3 12100 laying around but i dont need to use it if its going to be a royal pain.

what all should i know before buying things?

last time i did this was in 2007 on a dell laptop in college. cheetah iirc?

Well, that is correct. IGPU is supported only up to 10th Gen CML systems. Anything above that requires a discrete GPU (compatible AMD ones). If you can get a compatible discrete GPU, then you can go with 14/15th Gen.

Your workloads will determine how powerful CPU you would need.

well, idk if its anythign more than a novality but i might take it to work and setup on my tool bench. web, module flashing, kinda it. would be cool to be able to show off a game or two but...

what id like to do is not spend a crap load of money but im limited to ITX or mITX and im capped around 300w (if i can build a PSU that large in such a small space) and i do plan to use a AMD radeon. 580 or maybe a 6XXX/5XXX

the B series chipsets are cheaper and easier to find, ive seen guides that say you cant use them but hten see posts of people using them so... am i correct in thinking that if i dig into the boards and find audio/network/usb controllers that are on the "known working boards" that id have an easier time on install?

im leaning towards 13th gen because they are cheaper and easier to find

OR if i find a good deal on a i5/7 8th gen or such. i may ebay that but there are not many itx boards up for sale
