hi there! i’m new to this forum.
Back when the hackentosh first started, and became a thing, i completed a working hackentosh from the info on that main forum of the time. Fun times! Long time ago so don’t remember what the name of it was. i was definitely a fan of Macgirl (and other very knowledgeable members) and was sad when i came back after being away for awhile, and saw the posts saying she had passed away. She was smart and always had a great since of humor, was one of a kind and is greatly missed. i think she is in heaven and we will meet her again someday.
My main reason for being here is:
one of the hacks that were taught back then was how to disable the call home, which i forgot how, and would like to learn that again.
Before i learned it and disabled it, i got a very creepy phone call from an apple rep, who said, “we noticed you haven’t been connecting your macbook pro to the internet and we’re just reaching out to see if everything is working ok on your end."
Basically the “call home” is a report on your activity sent periodiclly to apple. But you currently cannot find anything about that, much less disabling it, by doing an internet search which assumes you are referring to phone calls.
is anyone here familiar with the procedure for disabling the "call home?” I’m on a mac mini, but i.m sure the procedure would be the same for a hack or for any mac.
Thanks!,
HSG (David)
