How to set Default Boot Drive [Clover/OpenCore]

This guide describes how to set the default boot drive for Clover and OpenCore. By following this guide, you'll be able to set the desired boot volume when booting through Clover or OpenCore bootloader. To set the default boot drive, follow the steps below.

Clover

If you're using Clover as a bootloader, follow the steps below to set the default boot drive.

1. Mount your ESP
2. Open your config.plist using any XML editor from the EFI/Clover directory.
3. Enter the name of your desired boot drive in Default Boot Volume option in Boot section of your config.plist. If you're using High Sierra or later, use Preboot as Default Boot Volume.
4. Save your config.plist.
5. Restart your system. Now, your desired volume will be always selected by default.

OpenCore

If you're using OpenCore as a bootloader, follow the steps below to set the default boot drive.

1. Mount your ESP
2. Open your config.plist using any XML editor from the EFI/OC directory.
3. Enable AllowSetDefaultoption in Misc>Security section of your config.plist
4. Save your config.plist
5. Restart your system.
6. From the OpenCore picker, select your desired Boot volume and press CTRL+Enter key together and it will boot from the desired boot volume. When you restart the system next time, your desired volume will be always selected by default.
