How to Install Clover Bootloader [UEFI/Legacy]​

An EliteMacx86 Exclusive Guide - This guide covers the installation of Clover Bootloader for UEFI and Legacy systems for booting macOS.

1. Download Clover Bootloader
2. Right click on the .pkg file you downloaded above and select Open.
3. Once you open the .pkg file, you'll see a popup. Simply click on Allow



4. Click on Continue to proceed with the installation of Clover Bootloader


5. By default, the Clover Bootloader will select the macOS Drive. In our case, it's Macintosh HD. If you want to install Clover Bootloader to some other location than the default one, such as on your macOS Bootable USB, simply click on Change Install Location and select your installation Drive.


6. Click on Customize and depending on the Boot Mode you have, select the appropriate one from below.

For UEFI​

If you’re using a UEFI-based system, then it’s recommended to install Clover as a UEFI. Configure the following options for UEFI.

Packages to install

• Clover for UEFI booting only
• Install Clover in the ESP
• UEFI Drivers>Recommended Drivers: AudioDxe, FSInject, SMCHelper
• File System drivers: ApfsDriverLoader
• Memory fix drivers: OpenRuntime
• Themes: BGM (You can select any)

7. Once you have configured the packages, click on Install. When prompted, enter your password. The Clover Bootloader will be installed in the selected location of your choice.
8. When the installation is complete, the EFI partition will be mounted on your Desktop and you'll see the following message. Simply click on Close.

9. Download OpenCore Package.
10. Copy the HFSPlus.efi driver from X64/EFI/Drivers to /EFI/Clover/drivers64UEFI directory.

NOTES: You need one additional driver. HFSPlus.efi Without HFSPlus, you won't be able to see any HFS+ volumes including your installation/system drive.

For Legacy​

If you’re using a Legacy based system, then it’s recommended to install Clover as a Legacy. Configure the following options for Legacy.

Packages to install

• Install Clover in the ESP
• Boot Sectors: Install boot0af in MBR
• Clover for BIOS (legacy) booting: CloverEFI 64-bits SATA
• BIOS Drivers, 64 bit>Recommended Drivers: AudioDxe, FSInject, SMCHelper, XhciDxe
• File System drivers: ApfsDriverLoader
• Themes: BGM (You can select any)

7. Once you have configured the packages, click on Install. When prompted, enter your password. The Clover Bootloader will be installed in the selected location of your choice.
8. When the installation is complete, the EFI partition will be mounted on your Desktop and you'll see the following message. Simply click on Close.

NOTE: For Clover legacy, HFSPlus.efi is built-in (Clover legacy loads no drivers from drivers64UEFI anyway)

Notes on HDD/SSD (Target Disk) install:
- select "Install RC scripts on target volume" and/or "Install all RC scripts on all other boot volumes"
- selecting "Install Clover Preference Pane" is optional

In my case, for Legacy, using HfsPlusLegacy.efi instead HFSPlus.efi is required for bootable!
