LIMITATIONS Thunderbolt will normally work when enabled properly in BIOS/UEFI. However, for a HotPlug, a HotPlug SSDT implementation is required. For unsupported Motherboards, a patched firmware is required. Few Devices may not work properly without Bus Activation. Few Devices may require Apple VT-d function under macOS. Advanced Thunderbolt Functions such as Networking Compatibility requires Bus Activation. Few Thunderbolt Devices such as Drobo require a bus activation which can be achieved by flashing a custom Thunderbolt firmware.

Yes, it is JHL6340 (LP, Single port) Alpine Ridge Thunderbolt Controller and it can be used on macOS.

It's normal. Thunderbolt information in System Report>Thunderbolt page requires Thunderbolt Bus Activation and for that, it requires flashing a custom firmware.
