Does anything in this guide alter the card itself in any way? I never changed the firmware itself.

So I followed this guide pretty successfully, but upgraded my CPU and now it won't boot. I will have to try to create a new bootloader, but in the meantime I created a new Windows installation. Unfortunately tne card is giving me an error in Device Manager. It comes up as a PCI-to PCU bridge, and gives me a Code31 error. This is with the header, or with 3 and 5 jumpered. I tried uninstalling and installing the drivers from Giaabyte, bupdating to Windows 11, and even mofifying the registry with HackFlag 200, 400, 600.

I am on an Aorus Ultra Gaming x299 MB with a i9-10980XE cup and 96 GB ram.

Thanks.

What do you mean by Alter the card itself? Did you use the original firmware or flashed a custom firmware? If you used a custom firmware, the chances are that you would not be able to use the Thunderbolt Card+any TB Devices under Windows and that's a limitation for now.

Which OS does not boot? Mac or Windows?

BIOS plays a crucial role for the TB functioning. It might be possible that Windows updated the firmware.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply!

I never altered the firmware, I believe that can only be done with an SPI flasher, and I don't have one.

My Ventura build wouldn't boot. I spent a couple days trying to get it running again. I even got a new install running fine with my clover bootloader, but it stopped booting after I installed UAD software. A new windows install on and NVMe drive works fine, except for the Code 31 on the Thunderbolt card.

Windows could have altered the firmware of the card? Is there anyway to factory default the card? Do I need to get an SPI flasher? I'll get one if I have to.

This is a Gigabyte Alpine Ridge 1.0 card.

Thanks again!

If you never flashed the software, use the header and check if the Thunderbolt settings are present on BIOS.

They are definitely in the BIOS. I set it to Enable, 0 Security. I've tried the Wake PCI and Boot options both ways.

Are you sure you're booting via Windows Boot Manager and not the OpenCore/Clover?

Yeah, It's definitely the Windows UEFI, I even unplugged all my other drives, and it was a brand new NVMe drive before I installed Windows on it.

Try to update the firmware using the GIGABYTE tool and make sure you have installed the required drivers.

I have the Thunderbolt driver and Firmware tool installed from the gigabyte alpine ridge page. The Thunderbolt Firmware updater gives me the error "Open driver handle failure!!" when I run it in admin mode, and hitting OK, just pops it back up again. I have to force quit in task manager.
