Hello, I am curious as to the role of the iGPU in graphics and to the adequacy of the RX 580 for MacOS. Does having the desktop iGPU being used for "compute-only" affect performance of a hackintosh? And is the RX 580 really all that bad, or is there a workaround to make it perform decently?

Having IGPU will help to enable functions like SideCar, and AirPlay. Secondly, you can utilize the QuickSync function. Third, you can utilize the IGPU and dGPU simultaneously to speedup the rendering.

But does it make using only an RX 580 usable?
Or should I go with a 5700 xt
For the use case of some gaming and general use

If you have normal work and want to do slight gaming, then go for RX580/590. If you have some mid-level graphics usage (such as editing) and gaming, go for RX6600/6600XT. Of course, you can consider RX 5700XT. But RX6600/6600XT is faster than that.

Alright I'm looking to have no lag and crank up the shaders on Minecraft (a little bit) so I think I'll go for the 5700 xt. The 6000 series is a bit above the budget for me. Thanks for the help

RX5700XT should be fine. Go for Sapphire/GIGABYTE/ASUS. MSI has a couple of issues. Avoid Chinese brands.
